Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Chicken Wings
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil

BBQ Spice Rub

  • 2 Tablespoon Smoked Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Celery Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dry Mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper

Honey Bourbon Sauce

  • 2 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/2 cup Ketchup
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 1/2 cup Bourbon
  • 1 teaspoon Corn Starch
  • 2 cloves Garlic Chopped
  • 1 Tablespoon Dijon Mustard

Instructions

Prepare the BBQ Spice Rub

  • Combine all of the spice rub ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Set aside.
2 Tablespoon Smoked Paprika, 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder, 1 teaspoon Celery Salt, 1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar, 1/2 teaspoon Dry Mustard, 1 teaspoon Salt, 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper, 1 teaspoon Onion Powder, 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper

Prepare the Wings

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Thoroughly dry the chicken wings, then place them in a large bowl.
    2 pounds Chicken Wings
  • Drizzle the olive oil over the wings and sprinkle the BBQ spice rub over them. Toss the wings until they are evenly coated.
    1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup. Arrange the wings in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle any remaining BBQ spice rub over the wings.
  • Bake the wings in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.

Make the Honey Bourbon Sauce

  • In a saucepan, combine the brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, ketchup, honey, bourbon, chopped garlic, and Dijon mustard.
2 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar, 1/2 cup Ketchup, 1/4 cup Honey, 1/2 cup Bourbon, 1 teaspoon Corn Starch, 2 cloves Garlic , 1 Tablespoon Dijon Mustard
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently. Let it cook for about 10 minutes until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat and set aside.

Finish the Wings

  • Bake for 20 minutes. Turn each wing and continue to cook for an additional 20 minutes.
  • Once the wings are cooked, remove them from the oven and dip each one in the Honey Bourbon Sauce, making sure they are well-coated.
  • Place the sauced wings back on the baking sheet and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the sauce caramelizes and sets.
  • Serve the wings hot with extra Honey Bourbon Sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

Flip for Even Cooking: Turning the wings halfway through cooking ensures they cook evenly on both sides.
Sauce Consistency: When making the honey bourbon sauce, simmer it until it thickens slightly. This will help the sauce cling better to the wings.
Experiment with Spice Levels: Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper in the BBQ spice rub to suit your heat preference. For an extra kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the honey bourbon sauce.
