This Easy Payday Shot Recipe tastes just like the delicious Payday candy bar of your past. It’s a delicious and indulgent cocktail made with equal parts of Screwball Whiskey, RumChata, and Butterscotch liqueur.
Served chilled in a shot glass, it’s a great way to kick start any night out or enjoy as an after-dinner treat.
A Payday bar is one of my favorite candy bars, but this PayDay shot drink is my favorite shot ever!
SIMPLE INGREDIENTS AND SUBSTITUTIONS FOR THIS FUN SHOT
- Screwball Whiskey – This unique whiskey (known as peanut butter whiskey) combines the classic taste of bourbon with the rich and nutty flavor of peanut butter. It’s smooth and easy to drink, with hints of vanilla and caramel that add depth to its flavor profile.
- RumChata – A creamy and delicious liqueur made from Caribbean rum, real dairy cream, cinnamon, vanilla, and other spices. It has a sweet and indulgent taste that pairs perfectly with the nutty notes of Screwball Whiskey. A RumChata shot makes this a must-try recipe in its own unique way!
- Butterscotch Liqueur – This is a sweet and buttery liqueur that adds richness and depth to any cocktail. Made from brown sugar, butter, vanilla, and other flavorings, it has a distinct caramel-like taste that perfectly complements the other ingredients in a Payday Shot. Butterscotch schnapps is my favorite to use for this recipe.
- Caramel Topping – Use your favorite caramel topping. I found a delicious sea salt caramel that is divine.
- Real Peanuts – You’ll want these in very small pieces, so they stick to the caramel sauce.
Together, these ingredients create a decadent and indulgent cocktail perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth.
HOW TO MAKE A PAYDAY DRINK
Whether you’re looking to kick start your night out or enjoy it as an after-dinner treat, a Payday Shot will satisfy your cravings for something sweet and delicious. The perfect alcoholic shot does exist, and this is it!
STEP 1:
Add a handful of peanuts to a food processor. You’ll want the peanuts finely chopped.
STEP 2:
First dip the edge of your shot glass in caramel (not too much or it will slide down the glass) and then into the finely chopped salted peanuts.
STEP 3:
Add 1 part of the peanut butter whiskey, 1 part RumChata and 1 part Butterscotch Liqueur to a cocktail shaker with ice and give it a shake.
Shake for approximately 15 seconds or until the outside of the shaker begins to frost up on the outside.
STEP 4:
Pour the drink into the prepared shot glasses and serve immediately.
RECIPE TIPS
You can’t go wrong making this salty nut shot!
- Gather the ingredients – Typically, PayDay shots are made with equal parts caramel-flavored vodka and amaretto liqueur, along with a splash of half-and-half or cream. Still, I think you’ll love the flavors the screwball peanut butter whiskey and Rumchata bring to this delicious shot.
- Mix your ingredients – You’ll want this shot super cold rather than room temperature. Combine all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until well combined and chilled.
- Strain and pour – Strain the mixture into shot glasses and serve immediately.
- Garnish this delicious shot recipe (optional) – If desired, you can garnish each shot with a small piece of caramel candy or a sprinkle of sea salt to enhance the flavor profile. My favorite is adding a little caramel garnish with peanuts. It turns it into more of a classic cocktail!
- Make ahead – To make ahead, prepare the shot glasses with caramel and peanuts and store them in the fridge until ready to serve. Store the mixed cocktail in the fridge for the best results.
- Sweeten the shot – If you like less alcohol, you could add a little bit of simple syrup to the shot.
- Shot glasses – If serving a large group, consider using plastic shot glasses to save on clean up.
