Growing up in the Midwest, I spent a lot of time with my extended family. I loved spending Saturday nights at my grandma’s house and having chocolate milkshakes. She seriously made the best milkshakes!

She didn’t use a blender, just a stainless steel mixing bowl, chocolate ice cream, and milk. If any of the shakes didn’t fit in our glasses, she would put the bowl back in the fridge for later so it would be perfectly cold and delicious.

Delicious Oreo milkshakes are different from what she served, but they are oh so good.

Why you will love this easy Oreo milkshake recipe

Kid-friendly fun – Oreo milkshakes are loved by both kids and adults alike. It’s a fun and delicious way to enjoy a classic cookie in milkshake form. You can even get the kids to make their milkshakes by letting them add their favorite toppings.

Easy to make – Oreo milkshakes are incredibly easy to make with just a few simple ingredients. All you need is vanilla ice cream, milk, and Oreo cookies. It’s a quick, hassle-free dessert option you can whip up in minutes.

Ingredients for Oreo milkshake

See the recipe card below for ingredient amounts.

  • Vanilla Ice Cream – Chocolate ice cream will work if you prefer extra chocolate, but I really like the vanilla flavor with the cookies.
  • Milk – The amount of milk will vary on how thick you like your shake. I prefer whole milk, but whatever you have on hand will work.
  • Oreo Cookies

Optional Toppings

  • Whipped Cream – The best part, in my opinion.
  • Cherries
  • Oreo Cookie Crumbles
  • Chocolate Syrup – A drizzle of chocolate sauce is fun but not necessary. I will often make this homemade hot fudge sauce and add it to the rims of the glasses.

How to make Oreo milkshakes

Step 1: Add ice cream, milk, and Oreo cookies to a blender. Pulse until smooth.

Add cookies to a small zip-top bag and pound them until they break up into fine crumbs. A food processor will work, too.

Add Oreo cookie crumbles, ice cream, and milk to a stainless steel bowl. Mix until the ingredients are incorporated. Pour into a glass and top with your favorite toppings. Don’t worry—using a mixing bowl will give you a great creamy texture.

Oreo chocolate milkshake variations

Milkshakes offer endless possibilities for customization. Here are some delicious milkshake variations to try:

Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake: Blend together chocolate ice cream, milk, and a spoonful of peanut butter for a creamy and indulgent treat. Top with whipped cream and chopped peanuts for extra crunch.

Strawberry Banana Shake: Combine fresh strawberries, ripe bananas, vanilla ice cream, and milk for a refreshing and fruity milkshake.

Mint Chocolate Chip Shake: Blend together mint chocolate chip ice cream, milk, and a handful of chocolate chips for a cool, refreshing shake with a burst of chocolate flavor.

Tips for making a thick Oreo cookie milkshake

If you don’t have a blender, use a rolling pin to crunch the cookies. Don’t worry if you have chunks of cookie. Serve the shake with a spoon and straw!

Add the milk a little at a time until you get the texture you like. If you like a thick shake, use less milk than if you want a super creamy Oreo milkshake.

Storage

Add the leftover milkshake to an airtight container and store it in the freezer. When ready to eat, leave the shake on the countertop until it reaches your desired consistency. If you are in a hurry, you can add a little milk to loosen the shake.
