Ingredients for boneless buffalo chicken wings

Air fryer buffalo boneless wing ingredients. Including, spices, breadcrumbs, hot sauce and chicken.
  • Chicken Breast – I use boneless, skinless chicken breasts. You could also use chicken tenderloins.
  • Mayonnaise
  • Panko Breadcrumbs – Panko breadcrumbs pack a nice crunch, but regular breadcrumbs also work. In a bind without breadcrumbs? Toast a few slices of bread and process into fine crumbs.
  • Spices – Seasoned salt, onion powder, and black pepper.
  • Hot sauce – Use your favorite brand.
  • Butter – You can combine salted or unsalted butter with the hot sauce.

How to make homemade boneless wings in the air fryer

Step 1: Cut chicken breast into 1-inch pieces and add them to a large bowl with the mayonnaise and mix until the chicken is well coated.

Step 2: Add breadcrumbs to a shallow bowl with seasoned salt, onion powder, and pepper.

Step 3: Roll each piece of chicken into the breadcrumb mixture until evenly coated. Place the coated chicken pieces in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Ensure they are not overcrowded to allow for even cooking. Lightly coat the chicken with cooking spray.

Step 4: Set the air fryer temperature to 350 degrees F and the cooking time to 5 minutes. Flip the chicken and cook for 5-7 more minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.

Step 5: Combine the hot sauce and butter in a small saucepan. Simmer over medium heat until the ingredients are fully incorporated.

Step 6: After cooking the chicken, gently toss it in the hot sauce and butter mixture. Serve with blue cheese, BBQ sauce, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, or your favorite dipping sauce.

FAQs

Why are my wings not crispy in the air fryer?

If your wings didn’t crisp up, it could be because the air fryer was too crowded or it was not hot enough.

Should I coat my wings before air frying?

Yes, if you coat the wings before frying them, you’ll get a nice, crispy, and tasty exterior.

Recipe variations and substitutions

  • Try using seasoned breadcrumbs for a slightly different flavor.
  • Modify the spices and use a combination of Mexican, Italian, or Greek-themed spices, or stir in some cayenne pepper or chili powder for a touch of spice.
  • Sprinkle with some parmesan cheese for a salty, cheesy flavor.

What pairs well with baked boneless buffalo wings

I love to start this chicken dinner with a wedge salad or a pecan and pear salad.

Wings also always go well with potatoes, and these loaded baked potatoes would be perfect to pair with them, as would my loaded baked potato bites. Add these glazed carrots or this roasted cabbage, and you’ll be all set

If you want to follow up with dessert, these chocolate walnut brownies would be my first pick.

Tips for making buffalo boneless wings

  • Try to get the chicken pieces the same size to cook up at the same pace.
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket so the chicken cooks evenly. If necessary, you can do two batches.
  • Evenly coat the chicken pieces with mayonnaise to ensure the breading sticks.
  • Pat the chicken strips with a paper towel to remove excess moisture before coating them with the mayonnaise.
  • Serve with a side of carrots and celery sticks to balance the spiciness.
  • Use a meat thermometer to be sure the chicken is fully cooked. The internal temperature should be 165F.

The mayo really contributed to the tenderness of the chicken while the crispy coating provided a satisfying crunch. Yum! And the best part is the hot sauce glaze, it’s the perfect balance between tangy and spicy flavors that I loved. Absolutely delicious!
