If you’re getting ready for game day (or just need an easy, crowd-pleasing snack), this Salsa Cream Cheese Dip is calling your name!
It’s made with just 5 simple ingredients—cream cheese, cottage cheese, salsa, cheddar, and Monterey Jack—and comes together in minutes.
I’ve been making a version of this dip for years, but adding cottage cheese to the base? Total game changer. It makes the dip so much creamier and scoopable straight from the fridge—no more waiting for cream cheese to soften or breaking chips from a too-thick bite.

If you’re on the fence about cottage cheese, don’t worry—you’d never know it’s in there. But the texture? So good.
Try a few of my other favorite dip recipes while you’re at it! My bruschetta dip is always a showstopper—perfect for everything from casual get-togethers to special events. And the cucumber cream cheese dip? So versatile! Spread it on bread for elegant tea sandwiches, serve it with crackers topped with cucumber slices, or use cucumber rounds as the “chip.” It’s light, fresh, and always a hit.

This dip stores beautifully! Just pop any leftovers in an airtight container and keep it in the fridge for 3–4 days. It’s perfect to pull out for a quick snack or unexpected guests—no reheating needed!
Make-Ahead Tips
Want to get a jump on party prep? You can make this dip a day or two in advance and let it chill in the fridge until you’re ready to serve. Just be sure to store it in an airtight container or cover it well with plastic wrap to keep it fresh.
Recipe Variations
This is one of those easy recipes that’s so fun to dress up! Here are a few creative ways to switch it up:
- Add toppings: Sprinkle with chopped green onions, sliced black olives, or even jalapeños for extra flavor.
- Taco it up: Mix taco seasoning into the cream cheese base for a spicy twist.
- Layer it like nachos: Spread the cream cheese mixture in a dish, then layer on shredded cheese, diced veggies, black beans, and salsa.
- Make pinwheels: Mix everything together in a bowl, spread on tortillas, roll them up, and slice into bite-sized pinwheels.
- Serve as bite-sized scoops: Use tortilla chip scoops, pipe in the cream cheese mixture, top with salsa and a sprinkle of shredded cheese—perfect for parties!
Can Salsa Cream Cheese Dip Be Baked?
Yes—this dip is delicious warm, too! I brought it to a friend’s house once, and she popped it in the oven, not realizing I usually serve it cold. Turns out, it was amazing that way, too!
More Easy Appetizers
I don’t know about you, but I love appetizers. Anytime I’m asked to bring something to a party, I’m the first to sign up for a dip or a snacky bite.
My friends go crazy for this hot artichoke dip—it comes together in 10 minutes and still tastes amazing even after it cools down. And this taco dip? I brought it to a neighborhood get-together and everyone was asking for the recipe before the night was over!

Notes
- It’s best to start with softened cream cheese.
- I prefer an equal mix of cream cheese and cottage cheese, but you can use all cream cheese if you like. In this case, I recommend spreading the ingredients out over a pizza pan so that the cream cheese is not too strong. Add extra salsa as needed.
- Serve tortilla chips, bagel chips, Fritos, or vegetables.
- If you plan to bake the dip, be sure to grate the cheese instead of buying prepacked cheese. You’ll get a much better melt!
Looks really good and easy! Can’t wait to try it
Fantastic!!
When ever I can add black beans to a dip….awesome. Thanks Jill
So easy to make and so good. I baked mine until cheese melted.
Thanks Randi! I agree it’s great hot.
Reminds of beer commercial “taste great” “less filling” very good.
I’ve never thought of adding cottage cheese to a cream cheese dip. But such a wonderful idea. Also, you’re killin’ it with the appetizers. I just came from your Italian Stuffed Mini Peppers and they look fabulous. So excited to make these recipes at my next football party.
Thank you Kristy! I love that the dip feels a little lighter when you blend in cottage cheese. Cheers to more football food!
