This Fresh Dill Dip is creamy, herby, and just right for summer snacking. It’s made with sour cream, mayonnaise, fresh dill, lemon juice, and a few simple seasonings that give it that ranch-style flavor everyone loves.

Serve it with fresh vegetables, potato chips, pretzels, or crackers, or set it out with your favorite party foods for an easy appetizer tray.

I started working on this recipe after making my sour cream and chive dip and realizing fresh dill needed its own moment. I have dill growing in my herb garden right now, and I love it so much that I’m always looking for another excuse to use it.

This dip is quick to stir together, but it tastes best after it has a little time to chill. That gives the dried onion, herbs, and seasonings time to soften and blend into the creamy base.

Why You’ll Love This Dill Dip

  • It uses fresh dill, which makes it perfect for summer.
  • It has a creamy ranch-style flavor without using a packet.
  • It takes less than 10 minutes to mix together.
  • It works with vegetables, chips, crackers, pretzels, and party trays.
  • You can make it ahead so it’s ready when guests arrive.

Simple Ingredients

Mayonnaise, sour cream, spices, lemon and fresh dill on a table before creating a dill dip.

Recipe Notes

  • Sour cream: This gives the dip its cool, creamy base. I like regular sour cream best for the richest flavor.
  • Mayonnaise: Use real mayonnaise, not Miracle Whip. Miracle Whip is sweeter and tangier, and it will change the flavor of the dip.
  • Fresh dill: Fresh dill gives this dip the best summer flavor. If you don’t have fresh dill, use 2 teaspoons dried dill weed in place of the 3 tablespoons fresh dill.
  • Fresh lemon juice: Fresh is best here. Bottled lemon juice can taste a little harsh, and this recipe only needs 1 tablespoon.
  • Dried minced onion: This is the dried onion you’ll usually find in the spice aisle. It adds that classic ranch-style flavor and softens as the dip chills. Don’t skip the chill time, because it gives the dried onion time to blend into the creamy base.
  • Garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, salt, and pepper: These simple seasonings round out the dip and keep it tasting like a homemade ranch-style dill dip.

Jill’s Tips

  • Fresh dill is softer than dried dill, so don’t be afraid of the 3 tablespoons. It gives the dip a fresh summer flavor without being too strong.
  • Chop the dill finely so you don’t end up with big pieces in one bite and none in the next.
  • Let the dip chill before you decide if it needs more seasoning. The dried minced onion and herbs need time to soften, and the flavor gets better as it sits.
  • For a lighter dill flavor, start with 2 tablespoons fresh dill and add more after the dip chills.

Step 2: Stir until everything is well combined. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. This gives the flavors time to come together and lets the dried onion soften.

What to Serve With Dill Dip

This dill dip is perfect with potato chips, pretzels, crackers, cucumbers, carrots, celery, and bell peppers.

It also makes a great party dip to set out with casual appetizers like oven baked hot wings, meatball sliders, or Italian stuffed mini peppers.

If you’re serving it for a summer cookout, add it to the table with slow cooker baby back ribs or pulled pork sandwiches. The cool, creamy dip is a nice balance next to smoky barbecue flavors.

Store leftover dill dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Stir before serving. I don’t recommend freezing this dip because the sour cream and mayonnaise can separate once thawed.
