If you’re ready to level up your potato game, you need to try these air fryer loaded baked potatoes!
The potatoes are brushed with olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt creating a crispy skin, while keeping a fluffy and tender middle.
WHY YOU WILL LOVE THEM
- An airy fryer doesn’t heat up the entire house like the oven does.
- They are an easy lunch or dinner option when you add a simple salad.
- There’s no need to wrap the potatoes in foil.
WHAT ARE LOADED BAKED POTATOES
Loaded baked potatoes are a popular side dish made by baking potatoes and then adding various toppings like cheese, bacon, butter and sour cream.
You’ll love how fast and easy it is to make them in the air fryer.
SIMPLE INGREDIENTS
- Russet potatoes – You could also use sweet potatoes, gold potatoes, or new potatoes, but I believe russet potatoes are the best choice for loaded air-fried potatoes.
- Olive oil – This oil is a good choice because it has a high smoke point, which makes it ideal for high-temperature cooking.
- Sea salt – Kosher salt can be substituted.
TOPPINGS
- Butter – Either salted or unsalted butter works great.
- Sour cream – Greek yogurt is a great substitute.
- Cheddar cheese -It’s always best to grate cheese yourself.
- Chopped green onions or chives
- Crumbled bacon – Use real bacon over bacon bits.
HOW TO COOK CRISPY BACON IN THE OVEN
My favorite way to cook bacon is in the oven. It eliminates the risk of getting burnt or getting grease on your clothing. Plus, the mess is contained to one sheet pan!
- In an even layer, place bacon onto a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 15-18 minutes or until it’s as crispy as you like. Place cooked bacon on paper towels to drain any excess grease.
TIP – Let the grease cool completely so that throwing the grease into the garbage is quick and easy.
STEP-BY-STEP DIRECTIONS
Step 1: Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees.
Step 2: Wash potatoes with a vegetable brush and dry thoroughly.
Step 3: Place potatoes in the air fryer basket and cook for 30 minutes.
Step 4: Remove potatoes from air fryer. Brush each potato with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
Step 5: Return to fryer and bake for an additional 5 – 15 minutes. Cook time will vary depending upon the size of the potatoes. You’ll know the potato is done when the internal temperature reaches 205 degrees.
Step 6: Serve each potato with cheddar cheese, sour cream, bacon and green onions.
Common Questions
To achieve a crispy and fluffy texture, you should be sure to preheat your air fryer thoroughly before cooking the potatoes. Try to avoid overcooking the potatoes by keeping a close eye on them and removing them from the air fryer when they reach 220 degrees.
There are many different kinds of toppings that you can add to your loaded baked potatoes, depending on your preferences. Some of the most popular options include cheese, sour cream, bacon, and green onions.
For this recipe, you can use smaller potatoes, regular baked potato, or even large potatoes.
WANT TO STORE FOR LATER? HERE’S HOW:
FRIDGE: To store the loaded baked potatoes for later, cool potatoes completely and place them in an airtight container or zip-top bag. They can be kept safely for 3 – 4 days.
HOW CAN I REHEAT LEFTOVER BAKED POTATOES
Reheat the potatoes in the air fryer, oven, or microwave to enjoy again later.
Microwave: It should only take 2 – 3 minutes to reheat.
Oven: Pull potatoes from the fridge and let them get to room temperature. Place the potato on a sheet pan in a 350-degree oven for 15 – 20 minutes.
Air Fryer: It’s quick and easy to reheat leftover potatoes in the air fryer. Set the fryer to 400 degrees and bake for 3-4 minutes.
Once the potatoes are warm, serve with your favorite toppings.
WHAT SHOULD I SERVE WITH AIR FRYER BAKED POTATOES
Here is a list of dishes I love serving with baked potatoes!
- Any kind of BBQ! I specifically like to serve baked potatoes with BBQ Pulled Pork, Smoked Baby Back Ribs and burnt ends.
- Meatloaf – You’ll find that air fryer potatoes cool in less time than a oven baked potato.
- Steaks is my second favorite main dish to go with loaded baked potatoes. Try this delicious marinade when planning your next steak night.
- Sweet Creamy Coleslaw is the perfect salad to accompany any type of potato including loaded potato skins.
- Fried Chicken is another great option to serve with potatoes.
- Pork chops cooked in the air fryer, stovetop or the grill.
