Honey Bourbon Baked Wings start with a smokey BBQ Spice Rub and finish with a sweet bourbon sauce. With a hint of spice and a sticky, caramelized finish, these wings are an irresistible treat for any occasion.

My husband and I adore chicken wings. Honey Bourbon Wings with a simple salad make a light, satisfying dinner.

We also make my Oven-Baked Hot Wings all the time. I use the same baking technique on both styles of wings, and they come out perfect every time. Wings are our favorite go-to food for the football season!

Ingredients

Ingredients to make honey bourbon bbq sauce.
  • Chicken Wings – My all-time favorite chicken wings come from Smart Chicken, renowned for their air-chilled process that ensures maximum tenderness and flavor. Without any added water, these wings remain plump and juicy, delivering a superior wing experience every time.
  • Olive Oil

HONEY bOURBON SAUCE

  • Brown Sugar
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Ketchup
  • Honey
  • Bourbon
  • Corn Starch
  • Garlic
  • Dijon Mustard

BBQ SPICE RUB

  • Smoked Paprika
  • Garlic Powder
  • Celery Salt
  • Brown Sugar
  • Dry Mustard
  • Salt & Black Pepper
  • Onion Powder
  • Cayenne Pepper

How to make Honey Bourbon Wings

Step 1: Prepare the BBQ Spice Rub

  • Combine all of the spice rub ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Set aside.

Step 2: Prepare the Wings

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Thoroughly dry the chicken wings, then place them in a large bowl.2 pounds Chicken Wings
  • Drizzle the olive oil over the wings and sprinkle the BBQ spice rub over them. Toss the wings until they are evenly coated.
  • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup. Arrange the wings in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle any remaining BBQ spice rub over the wings.
  • Bake the wings in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Then, flip each wing and bake for another 20 minutes to ensure they are perfectly crispy and cooked through.
  • While the wings are baking, prepare the bourbon sauce.

Step 3: Make the Honey Bourbon Sauce

  • In a saucepan, combine the brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, ketchup, honey, bourbon, chopped garlic, and Dijon mustard.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently. Let it cook for about 10 minutes until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 4: Finish the wings

  • Once the wings are cooked, remove them from the oven and dip each one in the Honey Bourbon Sauce, making sure they are well-coated.
  • Place the sauced wings back on the baking sheet and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the sauce caramelizes and sets.
  • Serve the wings hot with extra Honey Bourbon Sauce on the side for dipping.

  • Combine all of the spice rub ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Set aside.

    2 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar, 1/2 cup Ketchup, 1/4 cup Honey, 1/2 cup Bourbon, 1 teaspoon Corn Starch, 2 cloves Garlic, 1 Tablespoon Dijon Mustard
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently. Let it cook for about 10 minutes until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat and set aside.

Finish the Wings

  • Bake for 20 minutes. Turn each wing and continue to cook for an additional 20 minutes.
  • Once the wings are cooked, remove them from the oven and dip each one in the Honey Bourbon Sauce, making sure they are well-coated.
  • Place the sauced wings back on the baking sheet and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the sauce caramelizes and sets.
  • Serve the wings hot with extra Honey Bourbon Sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

Flip for Even Cooking: Turning the wings halfway through cooking ensures they cook evenly on both sides.
Sauce Consistency: When making the honey bourbon sauce, simmer it until it thickens slightly. This will help the sauce cling better to the wings.
Experiment with Spice Levels: Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper in the BBQ spice rub to suit your heat preference. For an extra kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the honey bourbon sauce.
