Breakfast sausage is a big deal at my house. My husband and son absolutely love it, and over the years, I’ve figured out the easiest way to get it on the table without making a greasy mess.
These Air Fryer Breakfast Sausage Patties are one of my favorite breakfast shortcuts. They cook in just 8 minutes, don’t require babysitting, and keep the stovetop clean while everything else comes together.
To make a complete breakfast, pair air fryer sausage patties with Breakfast Potatoes and this delicious Onion and Bacon Quiche.

When I’m whipping up a full breakfast, things get busy. Sausage gravy and eggs on the stove, drop biscuits in the oven, and pancakes on the griddle. Making the sausage in the air fryer is the perfect way to keep everything running smoothly!
We also make a lot of easy breakfasts around here, like asparagus and ham quiche, breakfast tortilla pizzas, and peanut butter baked oatmeal. If you’re looking for more ideas, you can browse all of my breakfast recipes here.

What Kind of Sausage is Best
Breakfast Sausage
The fastest breakfast sausage to use is already-seasoned, like R. B. Rice or Jimmy Dean sausage. These sausages have been seasoned with a blend of sage, thyme, salt, and pepper.
Italian sausage is seasoned differently and won’t give you the classic breakfast flavor.
Ground Pork
If you want to make homemade breakfast sausage patties use ground pork and add garlic powder, fennel seeds, paprika, sea salt and pepper.\
Simple Ingredients
- Breakfast Sausage
- Optional – Maple Syrup
How to Cook Sausage Patties in the Air Fryer
Step 1: For the best results, preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees.

Step 2: Divide the sausage into 8 patties.

Step 3: Place raw sausage patties into the air fryer in a single layer. Cook for 5 minutes. Work in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.

Step 4: Flip the sausage and cook an additional 3 minutes, or until browned on both sides and the internal temperature reaches 160°F. Cook time can vary depending on the brand of air fryer you are using.

Step 5: Remove the fresh patties from the air fryer and enjoy!
How to Store Air Fryer Breakfast Sausage
FRIDGE: To store your air fryer breakfast sausages, place them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
FREEZER: You can freeze the cooked sausage patties by placing them in a freezer-safe bag or container and storing them for up to 3 months.
REHEAT: To reheat, simply microwave until the sausage is warmed through, or place in a preheated air fryer for 1-3 minutes.
Facts and Common Questions
Some possible substitutes for maple syrup include honey, brown sugar, or agave nectar. Depending on your tastes and dietary restrictions, you can use whichever sweetener you prefer!
The best way to tell if your sausage patties are done cooking is to use a meat thermometer. The internal temperature should be 160 degrees Fahrenheit, which indicates that they are fully cooked.
One of the easiest air fryer recipes you’ll ever make. Just 8-10 minutes with little to no mess!
Preheat oven to 350°F. Place the sausage in a baking dish and bake for 15-20 minutes. Flip the sausage halfway through.
Increase the cooking time from 8 minutes to up to 10 minutes if the sausage patties are frozen.
Tips
- For the tastiest results, avoid overcrowding the air fryer; having too many patties in the basket at once will result in uneven cooking. Plus, leaving space between sausages allows air to circulate all around for even frying and optimum deliciousness.
- If you want to cook air fryer breakfast sausage links, follow the same directions for patties.
- Do not exceed 400°F or the patties can over-brown before cooking through.

Ways to Use Breakfast Sausage

- Serve the patties as part of a classic breakfast platter with eggs, toast or biscuits, and fresh fruit. It’s an easy way to get a full breakfast on the table fast.
- Use the sausage in breakfast burritos for a grab-and-go option. I love making a batch ahead of time and reheating them during the week for busy mornings.
- Add the cooked sausage patties to a breakfast casserole when you’re feeding a crowd or planning ahead for the weekend. It’s a simple way to add protein without extra stovetop work.
- Don’t save this recipe just for mornings. We make sausage patties with eggs and toast all the time for an easy breakfast-for-dinner night.
- Create a breakfast sandwich by tucking a sausage patty into a warm biscuit or English muffin.
