Steakhouse Blue Cheese Dressing Recipe

Sharing is caring!

This Steakhouse-Style Blue Cheese Dressing is thick, creamy, and loaded with real blue cheese. It tastes like something you’d order at a restaurant, but it’s made with just 6 simple ingredients in 5 minutes.

I use this dressing for crispy chicken wings, classic wedge salads, burgers, and even drizzled over baked potatoes.

We love wings at my house, especially for game days, casual get-togethers, and Sunday afternoons watching football. I’ve been making this blue cheese dressing for years, adjusting the ratios again and again until it was thick enough to cling to wings and bold enough to stand up to spicy sauces. It’s the version friends always ask about when wings are on the table.

Quick Wins (At a Glance)

  • Ready in 5 minutes, no blender needed.
  • Thick and chunky like a steakhouse dressing.
  • Made with real blue cheese, not flavoring.
  • Works as both a salad dressing and a dip.
  • Low-carb and keto-friendly.

Why You’ll Love This Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing

  • Simple ingredients: Just 6 ingredients you can grab at any grocery store.
  • Steakhouse texture: Thick, creamy, and chunky, not thin or pourable like bottled dressing.
  • Better than store-bought: You control the flavor, the tang, and the amount of blue cheese.
  • Versatile: Use it for wings, salads, burgers, and potatoes.

My Favorite Ways to Serve This Dressing

  • BBQ Chicken Pizza – Drizzle 1 – 2 tablespoons of the homemade blue cheese salad dressing over a slice of pizza.
  • Simple Wedge Salad – This dressing was made for a classic wedge salad, but is also great on a simple green salad.
  • Hot Wings – Buffalo wings and blue cheese dressing go perfectly together!

Simple Ingredients

Ingredients for steakhouse blue cheese dressing including mayonnaise, buttermilk, lemon, blue cheese crumbles, black pepper, and fresh parsley on a marble surface

Recipe Notes

  • Mayonnaise – I prefer full-fat mayonnaise, but you could substitute light mayo. I have never made the recipe with Miracle Whip.
  • Buttermilk – Buttermilk adds a tangy flavor to the dressing. See below how to make your own buttermilk or pick some up from the grocery.
  • Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice – You’ll love how the lemon brightens the dressing.
  • Blue Cheese Crumbles – There are many different kinds of blue cheese, I used Roquefort for this recipe. You can buy pre-crumbled blue cheese, but I like to buy a wedge of blue cheese and crumble it myself.
  • Fresh Parsley – You can use dried parsley in a pinch.

See the recipe card below for a complete list of ingredients and measurements.

Of course, I use this dressing for salad, but it also works really well as a burger sauce. I use it on my classic cast-iron burgers, and it instantly gives them a steakhouse-style feel.

No buttermilk? Stir 1 tablespoon white vinegar or lemon juice into 1 cup of milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using. Yes, it’s really that easy.
