Cast-Iron Burgers are a classic juicy cheeseburger with egg, oats, steak seasoning and dry ranch dressing mix. These burgers stay nice and juicy and are perfect for any night of the week! Serve it with Pesto Potato Salad, Caesar Pasta Salad or Broccoli and Cauliflower Salad.
CAST-IRON OR GRILL
I have some history with burgers being cooked in a cast iron skillet. This is the way my Grandmother always made them, and her burgers were the best!
When you cook on a grill, the food receives the heat from each grate the food is touching. In a cast iron skillet, the entire surface is receiving the heat, which helps the burger to cook more evenly. Plus, you won't have to deal with the flames that are created from the fat dripping down on an outdoor BBQ grill.
GROUND BEEF
For the ground beef I use 80 / 20. Let's face it, burgers are simply better with more fat and the fat keeps the burger super juicy and tender.
BUNS AND CHEESE
At my house, the bun isn’t the main event, so I am not picky about the brand, but I do like to toast them before serving.
If you want to eat low-carb, 86 the bun and serve the burger between two pieces of lettuce.
For me a thick slice of Cheddar or Colby Jack is perfect on this burger. You might also like, mozzarella, pepper jack or provolone to top your burger.
HOW TO COOK CAST-IRON BURGERS
- Add the first 7 ingredients to a large bowl. Mix until just combined, careful not to over mix.
- Divide the mixture into 4-6 even patties.

- Spray cast iron skillet with cooking spray and heat until very hot. Cook the burgers on each side for about 4-6 minutes, depending on the thickness. Do not over crowd the burgers. Cook in batches if necessary.
- Meanwhile, butter the inside of each bun. Either on a grill or griddle toast each bun.
- Serve the burgers with your favorite toppings.
HOW TO COOK CAST-IRON BURGERS ON THE GRILL
You can still make this burger recipe on your BBQ grill. Especially if it's one of those times you are tailgating with friends or having a game day celebration (I also recommend checking out my Game Day Snacks post!).
Follow these instructions:
- Add the first 7 ingredients to a large bowl. Mix until combined, careful not to over mix.
- Divide the mixture into 4 – 6 even patties.
- Grill burgers approx 4 - 6 minutes on each side, depending upon the thickness of the patties. Place one piece of cheese on each burger for 1 – 2 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

- Serve the burgers with your favorite toppings.

TIPS
- TIP 1: To keep your burger from falling apart, be sure to COOK them straight from the fridge.
- TIP 2: Put a small indention into the middle of the burger. This keeps the meat from pulling up and will keep your burger flat for better stacking of the toppings.
- TIP 3: It’s best not to flatten the burger with your spatula. This causes all the juices to spill out of the burger.
- TIP 4: Because of the high fat content, it’s a good idea to keep a spray bottle out at your grill to keep the flames down.
- TIP 5: Let the cheese melt fully. If you are using a propane grill, turn it off and let the cheese get melted to perfection.

Delish! I used 2lbs of meat and followed same ingredient breakdown as if for 1.5. My husband and boys loved them! Very juicy!
